MY REVIEW
I recently had the pleasure of embarking on a unique adventure with The Great Escape Charter Company, where I indulged in the Kimberley Mud Crabbing experience. As a woman traveling alone, I was looking for something beyond the typical tourist trail, and this certainly did not disappoint.
From the moment I stepped aboard the MV Great Escape, the company's custom-built luxury catamaran, I felt a sense of exclusivity and intimacy that can only be found in a small group setting. With just 11 guests on my trip, the atmosphere was personal and the crew's attention to detail was impeccable. The vessel was more than spacious and conformable.
The mud crabbing itself was an absolute highlight. It's not every day you get to venture into the mangroves and learn the art of catching these creatures. Pulling up the traps, was matched only by the satisfaction of catching a few sizable crabs. It was hands-on, authentic, and gave me a real taste of the wild Kimberley.
I feel the experience was made special by the knowledge and passion of the crew. They were not only experts in navigation but also in the history and geology of the Kimberley region. Their stories added to our tour.
The helicopter ride, an optional part of the tour, provided a perspective of the Kimberley that was nothing short of breathtaking. Soaring above the beautiful landscapes, I saw waterfalls and Indigenous art sites that seemed as untouched as they must have been thousands of years ago.
The BYO alcohol policy meant that evenings could be spent sipping my favorite wine, sharing stories with the new friends I made, without worrying about a bar tab at the end of the trip.
